Dear Hedenkamp Community,
We are all saddened by the horrific events of the past few days that occurred in Connecticut. Our hearts and prayers go out to the parents and families affected by this tragedy.
The Chula Vista Elementary School District and Hedenkamp will continue to reassess district-wide safety plans. Members of the Chula Vista Elementary School District will be meeting with the Chula Vista Police Department to review all school safety plans.
As you know, Hedenkamp has a closed campus and all visitors must enter and sign in through the office. In addition, all gates will be closed at 8:45 a.m. and reopen at 3:10 p.m. All schools in the Chula Vista Elementary School District are required to practice safety drills including fire drills, earthquake drills and emergency drills (intruder on campus).
If you are interested in more information about school safety as well as how to talk with children about safety, please visit CASEL, a Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning. On their home page, just look to the right to see the link, Explaining and Coping with School Violence. They have organized many different websites throughout the United States that are very parent friendly.
I strongly encourage all parents and community members to follow our Hedenkamp Huskies Website. By following us, you will immediately receive information about activities and events at Hedenkamp.
