THANK YOU HEDENKAMP STAFF

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

This past week was Staff Appreciation Week at Hedenkamp.  It was a time for  us to appreciate all that our teachers, secretaries, custodians, noon supervisors,
cafeteria staff and instructional assistants do for our children.  Everyday, their efforts on behalf of children make a difference.  A huge thanks to our wonderful PTA for all their support.  The luncheon was fabulous, the gift card to Golden Spoon was great and the key chain about our “PAW”some staff made the week really very special.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!

California state assessments

We have completed testing CST for the 2011-2012 school year.  Hedenkamp should receive our results by the end of July.  Parents will receive individual results sometime in August.   Thank you for your support.  Your children worked very hard and absolutely did their best work.

Parent volunteer breakfast

Hedenkamp is honoring and celebrating the many parent volunteers at Hedenkamp Elementary School on Friday, May 18 @ 8:00 a.m.  On behalf of all of all of us,  I thank our parents for their support and hard work that help make Hedenkamp a great school.  Thank You!

The California State Tests begin on Monday, April 30 and continue through Tuesday, May 8.  All students in grades 2nd through 6th will take the English Language Arts and Mathematics Assessments.  Fifth grade students will also take a Science Test.  Testing will begin at 9:00 a.m. so please make sure your child is on time and ready to go.  It’s  not too late to check out the Released Test Questions.  Go to the Released Test Questions Website to see what your child will be doing for the next six or seven days.

Great News! The Chula Vista Elementary School District is offering a free breakfast for all students taking the test.  At Hedenkamp, we begin serving breakfast at 8:15 a.m. Free breakfasts will be offered every day we are testing.

california state testing

This week, the window for California State Tests opened.  We began by testing our English Learners enrolled in our Dual Immersion Program.  They are taking the California Standards Test in Spanish.

The CST for all students in grades 2nd-6th begins on Monday, April 30.  Please make every effort to avoid any doctor or dental appointments the week of April 30-May 4.  Testing begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. Let’s have 100% attendance!

Each day, your child will take a test that lasts about ninety minutes.  The testing is not timed, so the testing period will vary from grade to grade and child to child. Don’t forget to take a look at Released Test Questions.  The format of the question is sometimes confusing and by reviewing former questions it may help your child in answering the question.  GOOD LUCK HUSKIES and remember PAW POWER RULES!

WELCOME NEW DUAL IMMERSION KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

On Wednesday, April 18, our Hedenkamp Dual Immersion Team met with our new incoming Dual Immersion Kindergarten Parents.  The Dual Immersion Teachers shared information about scheduling, assessment data and the general philosophy of Dual Immersion Education.  Click on the link Programa de Inmersión for more information about Hedenkamp’s Dual Immersion Program.

drop off and pick up

Thank you to everybody for your patience as we change the drop-off and pick up procedures at Hedenkamp.  So far so good!  It seems that the afternoon pick-up is going well.  We still realize that there is not enough parking  to accommodate everyone, so we encourage you use the pick-up line and meet your children there.

Annie Jr. is coming to hedenkamp

The Hedenkamp Theatrical Ensemble will proudly present Annie Jr. on Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23.  Tickets for these performances will go quickly.   A lottery for Orchestra and Mezzanine Tickets will be held after the April 26 rehearsal.  Please click on Hedenkamp Ensemble for more information on both Annie Jr. and how to enter the lottery for tickets.

HELLO HEDENKAMP HUSKIES

GREAT TO BE BACK!

Welcome back Hedenkamp Huskies!

The next few months are always the busiest of any school year.   This time of year  we are busily preparing for a number of assessments to measure your child’s academic progress.  The results of these assessments give us information to better prepare for the next year.

First, beginning Monday, April 30, all students in grades 2nd-6th will be taking the California Standards Test.  These tests are required by law as part of the “No Child Left Behind” legislation.  Testing begins on Monday, April 30 and will end on Wednesday, May 9.  Click on Released Test Questions to review actual test questions used in previous years.  Again, reviewing released test questions may help our students better understand the format of the test.

In addition, all 2nd-6th grade students in our Dual Immersion Classes will be taking a Standardized Test called Aprenda.  This test is used to measure your child’s strength in reading Spanish.  Click on Aprenda for more information.

Finally, all students kindergarten-6th grade will be assessed in the Chula Vista Elementary School District Local Measures.  Local Measure Assessments will test your child’s abilities in reading, writing and mathematics.

Everyone is invited to attend our final General PTA Meeting on Wednesday, April 10 @ 5:30 p.m.  In addition to meeting your new PTA Board, I will share more information about the assessments I have listed above.  Let’s have a great turnout!

Welcome Back Huskies!

Drop off and pick up zones

Over the break, the parking lot was re-striped to reflect the new pick-up and drop-off area.  Please make every effort to comply with the new procedures.  We are asking everyone to continually move forward to pick up or drop off your children.  By doing so, it relieves congestion in the parking lot both in the morning and in the afternoon.  In addition, it allows our busses to enter and exit more efficiently.   We greatly appreciate your cooperation and patience during this very busy time of day.

Thank you to everyone that expressed your ideas and opinions regarding parking at Hedenkamp.  We realize that there are not enough parking spaces for everyone during the 3:15 p.m. dismissal time and we strongly encourage you to try out the pick-up zone.  Both Mr. Topolovac and myself will be monitoring the process every day to ensure the safety of our students.

Hello hedenkamp huskies!

On behalf of all of us at Hedenkamp, I want to wish everyone a terrific spring break.  All students will return on Monday April 9.  Please remember that Monday, April 9 is a minimum day.    Our students have worked hard this past quarter and we greatly appreciate their effort.  Our students deserve a break, but make sure they do some reading and writing over the next two weeks.  Maybe a few sessions in SuccessMaker would also be appropriate.

California standards tests

All second through sixth grade students will be assessed in English Language Arts and Mathematics beginning Monday, April 30 and ending Tuesday, May 7. Please make every effort to avoid any scheduled doctor or dentist appointments.

Over the spring break, you may want to review with your child, actual CST Questions.  Please click “Released Test Questions” to take a look.  Using this site is a great way to show our students sample questions and test format.  Often, a student might know the standard or concept, but does not understand the format.  Reviewing actual questions may help.

Parent teacher association meeting

Mark you calendars now for a very important PTA Meeting.  Our next general PTA meeting is Wednesday, April 11 @ 5;30 p.m. Come and enjoy meeting your fellow Hedenkamp Husky Parents.  We will also elect and introduce our new PTA Board for the 2012-2013 school year.  Finally I  will share information about the upcoming testing schedule.  Let’s have a GREAT turn out!

california standards tests

The testing schedule for grades 2nd-6th is April 30-May 7.  All second through sixth grade students are required to take this test.  To help your child prepare, you might want to click on Standardized Testing and Reporting.  There, you will be able to view actual questions from previous year’s California Tests.  This is an excellent site to review with your child.  As parents, you will be able to see the format and type of questions that will be administered.  Great way to review!

Drop Off and Pick Up Zone

Over the spring break, the parking lot will be re-striped to indicate the new pick- up and drop-off area.  Please make every effort to drive forward as you  drop off or pick up your students.  You patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated.  We realize that parking is also difficult at this time of day, so please drive safely and exercise caution.

  • Katelin  in Mrs. Reiff’s class.

Both Jerolmel and Fizzah were selected to participate in the finals. At the finals, Jerolmel placed in the top five and Fizzah placed third.  Hedenkamp is very proud of all three of our Speech Contestants.  Great Work!

after school pick up

Thank you to everyone for your support of our efforts to improve the after school pick up procedures.  We will continue to monitor the process and we need your help to succeed.  Please instruct your child (children) to wait for pick up at the south side of the parking lot (next to the bus loop area).  Also, please continue to drive forward as the cars exit the parking lot.  Over the next few months, we will begin to post new signage and we will eventually re-stripe the parking lot to indicate the drop off and pick up area.  As always, we welcome your ideas and suggestions.

CAMP UPDATE

Good Morning,

We just heard from Camp.  The roads are clear and there was only about an inch of snow last night.  Everything is now back to the original schedule.  The busses should arrive at Hedenkamp between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m.  Please park in the overflow parking on our playground.
