On behalf of all of us at Hedenkamp, I want to thank our absolutely terrific PTA imagesfor a great “Staff Appreciation Week.”  All week-long, our PTA “showered” our staff with gifts and food.  Hedenkamp PTA’s thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated by all of us.

Yesterday, our PTA sent home a flyer advertising Summer Fun at the Bay. Our PTA is selling tickets for $15 and for every ticket sold, $5 comes back to the school.  This is a great deal!  Tickets are $20 at the door. This week, May 6-10,  is Staff Appreciation Week.  This is the time to show our Unknownappreciation for our wonderful Hedenkamp Staff.  On Wednesday, May 8, we will honor our absolutely terrific teachers.  Please join me in wishing our teachers and staff a terrific Staff Appreciation Week.

are you moving?

imagesNext week, all families will receive information asking to let us know if you are moving and are not planning to return for the 2013-2014 school year.  By letting us know, it will greatly support our efforts in creating our classes for next year.  Thank you very much for your attention to this matter.

annual residency requirements

All families must provide annual proof of their residency in the Hedenkamp attendance area.  This week, you will receive a flyer providing information on what is needed to provide proof of residency.  Thisimages-1 annual event will be from May 20-May 31, 2013.  Our office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions.  Our hope is to make this process as easy as possible.

Our next Traffic Committee Meeting is Tuesday, May 7 @ 3:30 p.m. in our Library.  If you have any ideas or suggestions, please do not hesitate to send them to me at dropoffsignrichard.hanks@cvesd or call our school office.  Our goal is to present to our community a comprehensive Traffic Plan that will include information about picking up and dropping of students.  Upon completion of our work, we will meet with our community to share and ask for their support.

CALIFORNIA STATE TESTING

Today, marks the beginning of the California State Testing (CST).  Hedenkamp Students and Teachers have worked very hard all year to prepare and we are eager to do our very best.CST

Testing continues through Monday, May 6.  Please make every effort to have your child (children) on time and well rested.  As with all activities in life, attitude is most important. A positive attitude always makes a difference.   What we ask is that each and every student do their very best.

images-3Also, please remember that all 2nd-6th grade students will receive a free breakfast throughout the testing week.  And, a huge THANK YOU to our outstanding PTA for providing nutritious snacks for all students after they complete each section of the test.  Hedenkamp PTA is the BEST!

California state testing

Hedenkamp will begin California State Testing on Monday, April 29.  All 2nd images-1through 6th grade students will be tested in Language Arts and Mathematics.  All parents are able to view actual released test questions by clicking on Standardized Testing and Reporting.  There, you may view specific test questions in all areas of the California State Tests.

All 2nd-6th grade students will receive a free breakfast throughout the testing schedule.  Parents, please make sure your child has plenty of rest and arrives to school on time.

Our first meeting of our Traffic, Parking and Management Plan (TPMP) is Tuesday, April 23 @ 3:30 p.m. in the Library.  Our purpose will be to develop a Parking, Drop Off and Pick Up Plan for Hedenkamp.  Your input isimages crucial to our success.  If you have any ideas or suggestions, please do not hesitate to submit them to me either by phone (619 397-5828) or email (richard.hanks@cvesd.org).

It is that time of year for everyone to mark their calendar for an evening of music imagesand enjoyment.  This year, the Hedenkamp Theatrical Ensemble will be presenting The Little Mermaid.  Two Performances are scheduled for Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29. CALIFORNIA PARENT SURVEY

The Chula Vista Elementary School District is participating in the California Parent Survey.  This survey is the companion to the California Healthy Kids Survey that was administered to all fifth grade students this month.  The purpose Unknownof the survey is to obtain  parent perceptions of school climate and how they are related to student well-being, opportunities and learning.  The results of this survey will help guide the Chula Vista Elementary School District to promote safety and reduce health risks that stand as barriers to learning.  Click on the link, California Parent Survey and use the code VN79AZ.  The link to the survey will be open until May 31.  If 100 parents complete the survey, the school will receive a $100 gift card.

CALIFORNIA STATE TESTS

Hedenkamp and the Chula Vista Elementary School District will begin the California State Tests (CST) on Monday, April 29.  Please make every effort to have your child attend school that entire week.  During this testing week, all 2nd-6th grade students will be offered a free breakfast.images-4

Show your appreciation and support to our TEACHERS and STAFF!  The week of May 6 is TEACHER and STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK.  All week-long our PTA Unknownwill honor our teachers and other staff members.  This is a great time to write a little note of appreciation thanking them for all they do to support our children at Hedenkamp.

images-1Our “Buy One, Get One Free” Book Fair begins Monday, April 15.  This is a great opportunity to stock up on books for your summer reading.  The Scholastic Book Fair is open April 15-17 before school, during the lunch recess and after school. The Book Fair will also be open April 18 before school until mid-morning.

Please mark your calendars for a very important General PTA Meeting.  You will images-2meet our current PTA Officers, make new friends and you will have an opportunity to participate in PTA for the 2013-2014 school year.

  • When:  Wednesday, April 10 @ 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: Hedenkamp Library

In addition to learning more about PTA, we will spend some time reviewing the California State Testing Program. Hedenkamp Testing begins Monday, April 29.   Come see authentic released test questions and learn more about Hedenkamp’s Testing Program.  Your participation will imageslikely help your children do better on the California State Tests.

Finally, we will share information about a School Site Council Committee being created to develop a Hedenkamp Parking Plan.  This committee will include members from our PTA and School Site Council.  In addition, representatives from the City of Chula Vista and the Chula Vista Police Department will attend.  Your ideas and positive solutions will be welcome.

We would love to have our entire Hedenkamp Community come out and support our PTA.  Our PTA does so much for Hedenkamp. PTA Events include:  Husky Howl, Mother/Son Dance, Father/Daughter Dance, husky1Create a Tile Night, Book Fairs and many other events and fund-raisers throughout the year.  We need everyone’s help to continue these wonderful Hedenkamp Traditions.  Come out and make a difference to your school and your community.

Welcome back

Welcome back to the last quarter of the 2012-2013 school year.  On behalf of all of us at Hedenkamp, we want to thank you for all your support.  The last quarter is always very busy with many events scheduled.   Check back often to learn more about California State Testing, the amazing Hedenkamp Ensemble and all the many end of year activities that are scheduled.

Congratulations to Hedenkamp’s Soccer Team.  In a very exciting game against Heritage, Hedenkamp won 1-0.  Hedenkamp finished in third place.  Come on by our office to check out our trophy.  A huge thank you to all of our parents and players.  We look forward to playing again next year.soccer-player-vector-3050144-o

Lastly, we want to thank Mr. and  Mrs. Isabelle.  As everyone knows, coaching is voluntary.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Isabelle contributed hours and hours to benefit Hedenkamp Students.  Our students not only increased their soccer skills, they learned to play as a team while exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship throughout the season.  Mr. and Mrs. Isabelle modeled team play and respect.  Thank you!  We look forward to next year.

Congratulations to our very own Hedenkamp Soccer Club.  After a verysoccer-player-vector-3050144-o
competitive season, Hedenkamp came in first place.  Our first playoff game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5 @ 4:00 p.m. against Eastlake.  The game will be played at Hedenkamp, so come out and cheer for the home team!

images-1On Tuesday, March 5, Hedenkamp will practice an emergency lock-down drill.  Several Police Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department will join us to provide suggestions and expertise.  All adults and children on campus will be required to participate.  The drill will begin @ 11:00 a.m.

kindergarten registration

Thank you to everyone for an excellent first day of kindergarten registration. We registered 114 kindergarten students.  I greatly appreciate your suggestions and comments about how to make our registration process even better.  I invite all of our new Hedenkamp Huskies to follow our Hedenkamp Huskies Blog.

Thank you very much for all the parents that participated in the Chula Vista Elementary School District Satisfaction Survey.  Hedenkamp had an excellentUnknown turnout of almost 200 parents.  On behalf of the Chula Vista Elementary School District, I thank you very much.  Your input will be most valuable as our District and Hedenkamp continue to improve.

HANOVER SURVEY

As of last week, 75 Hedenkamp parents have completed the Chula Vista Elementary School Opinion Survey.  Although this is significantly more than our Unknownneighboring schools, it is far below our goal of 100% participation. The survey link will be open through the next week.  It only takes a few minutes and we would greatly appreciation your participation.

We have scheduled a school safety drill for Tuesday, March 5.  Several members of the Chula Vista Police Department will be on campus observing our drill. After
the practice lock down drill, we will review our procedures with members of the Chula Vista Police Department.

hedenkamp soccer club

The Hedenkamp Huskies Soccer Team is a new edition to our school.  Please come and support the team on Tuesday, February 19 as they compete against thesoccer-player-vector-3050144-o Heritage Elementary School Hawks.  This exciting event will take place out on the grass field from 4:00-5:00 p.m.  Healthy snacks will be provided at the Snack Bar from 3:00-5:30 p.m.  Our team hopes to see you there.
