CAMP UPDATE

Good Morning Everyone,

We will be calling Camp this morning to get a better idea of when our students will arrive back at Hedenkamp.  Just to let you know, we called transportation and they shared the following:

  • Our bus drivers are all experienced drivers
  • A mechanic will be on board and will be able to install chains if necessary

You may call the school later this morning to ask about the arrival time. Also, we will open the playground area for parking.  I will  write another post if I have more information about road conditions and our students’ arrival time.

Second Day of Camp

Good Morning Everyone,

Everyone is great and having a wonderful time.  It snowed a few inches on Monday night and more snow is expected tonight.  All the campers are due home tomorrow, sometime between 1:00-2:00 p.m. We will open the playground gate for sixth grade parents to park.  Mr. Gil, Mrs. Gaspar, and Mr. Topolovac will be there to help if you have any questions.

The sixth grade teachers will call the school tomorrow to let us know when they leave.  If there is a change, I will make a phone call to sixth grade parents to let you know the approximate time the campers will arrive.

Check out the pictures below.  Brrrrr, it looks cold!

First Day of Camp

Hello Sixth Grade Parents and Families,

Everyone arrived safely at Camp Marston.  It was a little cold with some light drizzle and fog.  There is a chance of snow tonight.  I have spoken to all the teachers and everyone is having a great time.  Check out a few pictures below!

Pick Up Procedures

Changes in Pick up procedures

Monday, February 13, Hedenkamp will begin a change in the  pick up procedures in the main parking lot.  Please make every effort to support these changes.  We are extending the pick up area to the entire south side of the parking lot (adjacent to the bus loop).  Please look for the cones and yellow tape.  We are asking that students gather at the far east end of the lot and that the cars drive forward to pick up their children.  We believe this may help eliminate congestion at the stop light.

As we implement these changes, we will also be looking for other ways to not only ease congestion, but to make the process of pick up and drop off more safe for our children.  We ask that you practice patience and that everyone is courteous of each other.

Hedenkamp News

support your parent, teacher, student association

Hedenkamp needs your help.  We are in the process of nominating  our PTA Board for next year.  Please consider joining this absolutely wonderful and committed group of parents.  All PTA Board Positions are open and we have many parents interested in serving on the board.  However, we still need someone who is interested in serving as president. We need your help!  Thank you.

Drop off and Pick up changes

I have been meeting with both our Maintenance Supervisors and Bus Supervisors, as well as many of our families, parents and staff to problem solve how we can improve our drop off and pick up traffic patterns.   There is no real perfect solution, but we will begin to implement a few changes beginning next week (week of February 13).

With the help of our District, we will eliminate the parking spaces directly adjacent to the bus loop area.  The existing drop off and pick up area (in the parking lot) will be extended the entire length of the parking lot.  Please look for cones and the yellow tape.  Eventually, there will be new striping to indicate the drop off and pick up area.  We believe this will help eliminate some of the congestion in our parking area and at the stop light.  We will be asking the students to gather on the pathway between the parking and the bus loop.

I am asking all parents that pick up their children after school to follow the new procedures in the main parking lot beginning on Monday, February 13. The pick up area for students will now be on the south side of the parking lot, next to the bus loop.

All of us at Hedenkamp greatly appreciate your support and patience as we implement changes to improve traffic flow around Hedenkamp.  Please drive carefully and, as always, we welcome your suggestions.

January & February Events

Hello hedenkamp huskies

We have had a great beginning to the third quarter of the 2011-2012 school year. It was great to see everyone again.  Our students returned eager and enthusiastic to continue their studies.

We began the quarter with staff development on written language.  Dr. Ruth Culham, a nationally recognized leader in the area of written language worked with both Salt Creek and Hedenkamp Teachers and Staff in the area of writing.  She demonstrated model lessons and shared many wonderful examples of using literature to improve writing.  I encourage all our parents to ask their children about writing.

mother/son dance

I expect to see everyone at this year’s Mother/Son Dance. The Dance is this Friday, January 27 @ 6:00 p.m.  If you did not purchase tickets during the pre-sale, you may buy tickets at the door.  This year’s theme is “Life in the Fast Lane.”  I look forward to seeing everyone there with their “dancing shoes” on.

kindergarten registration

Kindergarten registration is right around the corner.  To enroll your child, he or she must be 5 years old by November 1, 2012. THANK YOU!

hello hedenkamp huskies

On behalf of all of us at Hedenkamp, I want to thank the Hedenkamp Community for their continued support and commitment to our school and students. You made the 2011-2012 HUSKY HOWL the best ever!

I also want to thank Hedenkamp’s Parent Teacher Association.  As you know, the organization and preparation to hold an event such as the HUSKY HOWL is daunting to say the least.  Our PTA worked tirelessly to create an opportunity for the Hedenkamp Community to enjoy a safe and fun Halloween Celebration.

Please, if you get the chance, give a big HUSKY THANK YOU to our PTA Board and Officers.  We are indeed fortunate to have such a committed group of parents at Hedenkamp Elementary School.

Please encourage your friends and family to join our PTA and be a part of your school.  Check out Hedenkamp PTA  for more information.
