We have had a great beginning to the third quarter of the 2011-2012 school year. It was great to see everyone again.  Our students returned eager and enthusiastic to continue their studies.

We began the quarter with staff development on written language.  Dr. Ruth Culham, a nationally recognized leader in the area of written language worked with both Salt Creek and Hedenkamp Teachers and Staff in the area of writing.  She demonstrated model lessons and shared many wonderful examples of using literature to improve writing.  I encourage all our parents to ask their children about writing.

I expect to see everyone at this year’s Mother/Son Dance. The Dance is this Friday, January 27 @ 6:00 p.m.  If you did not purchase tickets during the pre-sale, you may buy tickets at the door.  This year’s theme is “Life in the Fast Lane.”  I look forward to seeing everyone there with their “dancing shoes” on.

kindergarten registration

Kindergarten registration is right around the corner.  To enroll your child, he or she must be 5 years old by November 1, 2012. Packets may be picked up in our office beginning February 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration begins February 29 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please call our office for more information. The first day of school is Tuesday, January 10 and it will be a minimum day. Students are dismissed at 1:55 p.m.

Don’t forget, our Library is open every morning at 8:00 a.m.  Students are encouraged to finish homework and other assignments, view BrainPop Videos and complete SuccessMaker Sessions and Accelerated Reader Quizzes.  As always, we are in need of volunteers in our Library.  If you are able to help, please contact Mrs. Melissa Camerana.

FATHER/DAUGHTER DANCE

The Annual Father/Daughter is event that you do not want to miss. Make sure you mark your calendars for Friday, December 9 @ 6:00 p.m.  Dads, put on your dancing shoes and join the fun.  Pre-sale tickets are on sale now until Friday, December 2.  Pre-sale tickets are $15.00 for Father/Guardian & one daughter and $20.00 for Father/Guardian & two or more daughters.  All PTA members receive a $1.00 discount.  You may also order a corsage for $5.00 and a tiara for $3.00.  By the way, I also hear there will be a great DJ.

A PIRATE CHRISTMAS

There will be two performances of “A Pirate Christmas.” Opening night is Tuesday, December 13 and closing night is Wednesday, December 14.  Both performances begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale today. On behalf of all of us at Hedenkamp, I want to thank the Hedenkamp Community for their continued support and commitment to our school and students. You made the 2011-2012 HUSKY HOWL the best ever!

I also want to thank Hedenkamp’s Parent Teacher Association.  As you know, the organization and preparation to hold an event such as the HUSKY HOWL is daunting to say the least.  Our PTA worked tirelessly to create an opportunity for the Hedenkamp Community to enjoy a safe and fun Halloween Celebration.

Please, if you get the chance, give a big HUSKY THANK YOU to our PTA Board and Officers.  We are indeed fortunate to have such a committed group of parents at Hedenkamp Elementary School.

Red Ribbon Week begins Monday, October 24. The theme this year is “It’s Up To Me To Be DRUG-FREE!”

All week long, our celebration at Hedenkamp will involve story telling, guest speakers, activities and assemblies for each grade level. Everyone is invited to come to school to help us celebrate Hedenkamp’s RED RIBBON WEEK.

Red Ribbon Week begins Monday, October 24.  We have an outstanding week planned for our students including two assemblies and the annual door decorating contest.

The assembly on Wednesday, October 26  is provided by our very own PTA and is called “Kids for America.” The assembly for our primary students begins at 9:00 a.m.                                               The intermediate assembly is at 10:00 a.m.

Red Ribbon Week is an effort in which everyone at school and work get to show their support of being drug free by wearing a red ribbon which is used as a symbol of support to stay off drugs.  The message all week-long is to have students learn about different drugs and why it’s important to stay away from them and how to deal with peer pressure.
